Partnerships

Aunt Dot’s Place is excited to announce that we are working with several community organizations to enhance our offerings and expand our reach within the community. Please read about our ongoing efforts.

We are pleased to announce that the partnership between Aunt Dot’s Place and the L4 Collective garden is active and making plans for the upcoming 2024 growing season. We will grow crops for Aunt Dot’s Place to distribute to our neighbors facing food insecurity, and will be supported in outreach and education by the Vermont Garden Network. This work is made possible by your generous donations last November using the SeedMoney garden fundraising platform. We offer our sincere thanks.

Two food distribution events highlighting our donated produce are planned at Aunt Dot’s Place in Essex. One on July 6 will feature cooked greens like mustard, kale and herbs and the second on October 19 will feature broccoli. We will provide a kit of ingredients including a recipe card and demonstrate meal preparation in Vermont Garden Network’s mobile kitchen. Please watch for additional details.

The complete 2024 crop list for Aunt Dot’s is: greens (primarily mustards), potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, onions, carrots, and garlic. The L4 Collective is seeking crop managers; we have managers for greens and potatoes, but please contact us if you would like to help with any of the other crops. We’ll provide compost, soil amendments, and a budget for seed and seedlings!  If you would like to grow these or other crops for Aunt Dot’s Place or any other food pantry on your own we encourage you to do so. Finally, we need to maintain and enhance the fruit and nut plantings we made last season and invite your leadership or participation.

Please contact Rob Kurth with questions about gardening and the L4 Collective and Aunt Dot’s Place with questions or comments about the food shelf. Watch for event announcements on Front Porch Forum and Facebook.
