Hi fellow volunteers,
I recently read that the best gift you can give others and your community is your time. Thank you for giving your time to Aunt Dot’s Place and our important mission. It feels at times like a miracle to me that people keep volunteering and people keep giving so that we can meet the growing need for our services. Amazing!
Your board has been busy with strategic planning. We’ve learned a great deal from hearing from our volunteers and clients. We’ve revised our vision and mission.
Vision – A healthy, thriving community where everyone enjoys lasting food security.
Mission – ADP supports our neighbors facing food insecurity by providing nourishing food, essential personal care items, and community connections.
At the heart of what we do are our values: compassion, connection, dignity, equity, responsiveness, service, and responsibility. More information on our values will be available soon on our website.
I’m also happy to announce that we have a new board member, Jon Ophardt, who brings to the board his extensive legal background. Jon is Chief of the Criminal Division in the US Attorney’s office and is a JAG, Judge Advocate General with the Vermont Air National Guard. Welcome Jon!
I want to highlight two businesses that support our mission. Matt Lumsden Real Estate, located in Essex Junction, does a Memorial Day food drive every year. This year, they collected 3290 pounds of food and personal products for us. Thanks, too, to all the volunteers, including some students from Essex Middle School, who processed this huge donation. Amazing!
The second business I want to mention is Sparky’s Bar and Grill, located at 4 Lincoln Place in Essex Junction. Sparky’s sells Break Open Tickets, also called Pull-Tab tickets, on our behalf. This has produced significant monthly income for Aunt Dot’s Place. If you visit Sparky’s, please tell them you volunteer at Aunt Dot’s Place and appreciate their contribution. If you purchase a pull-tab ticket, you will be donating to us! They have a trivia night on June 25th at 7:00 pm. Maybe some of you would like to form an Aunt Dot’s trivia team! Thanks to Len Bates, who initiated this program. Len, this has been your biggest fundraiser!
