“Fill a School Bus” Campaign Nets 858 pounds of food for Aunt Dot’s Place

March 4, 2018 | Sue Miyamoto

In February, Essex Elementary, Founders Memorial School, and Essex Middle School and both Central Offices of the Essex Westford School District, collected food for Aunt Dot’s Place. Two fifth grade boys from Founders excitedly helped load the bus on February 23.

A school bus, pulled up to Aunt Dot’s Place with boxes and bags of much- needed food and almost $1000.00 on February 23.  Volunteers were there to help unpack the food and stock shelves.

I am so glad that these schools provide opportunities for students to give. According to Amy Joyce, “Almost all children care for a small circle of friends and family, our challenge is to help our children learn to care about someone outside that circle.” (Article “Are you raising nice kids? A Harvard psychologist gives 5 ways to raise them to be kind”) It’s great to see this happening in our district!
