January 2026 Letter to Volunteers

Dear Wonderful Volunteers,

I am remembering today the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., who said in 1965, “Let us march on poverty until no American parent has to skip a meal so that their children may eat.” Yet we know from our clients that some of them did skip meals so their children could eat, but thanks to Aunt Dot’s Place, they no longer have to do that. Your volunteering is helping a part of Dr. King’s dream to come true.

At our Annual Meeting, members elected two new board members. Suzanne Lawrence had a career in patient care, research, and facilitated Spinal Cord Injury support groups and Post Covid Syndrome support groups, and Kathy Cheney, is a retired Director of Human Resources, who was also an Interim Director of Finances and a Director of Operations. We are excited to have them join us on the Aunt Dot’s Place board.

Our next step was the election of officers. I nominated Amy Bourdreau to be Board President, and she graciously accepted. Our other officers are Jon Ophardt as Vice President, Aimee Cronin as Secretary and Alice Astarita as Treasurer.  Also, I renewed my commitment to being on the board for another two-year term.

I’m delighted to share that Matt and Erica Lumsden of Matt Lumsden Real Estate delivered 1346.2 pounds of food today. Also, a woman walked in today and gave Aunt Dot’s Place a check for $2000.00! An amazing day in the neighborhood!
