Going the Extra Mile

Jennie Baker is a nurse who cares for patients at Jeri Hill Senior Housing in Jericho She noticed that some of her clients were unable to get out to do their food shopping, and knew that some had a limited budget. She was concerned and contacted Aunt Dot’s Place to see if we could help.

Volunteers created a list of what we provide at Aunt Dot’s Place, and Jennie takes the list to her clients and they check what they need. Jennie comes once a month, and with the help of volunteers picks out the food which she delivers to Jeri Hill. She is not paid to do this, and she does it on her own time.

This is so impressive to me. According to Studs Terkel, “Heroes are people who say “This is my community and it is my responsibility to make it better.”
