Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

April 3, 2019 | by Sue Miyamoto

Yesterday, at Aunt Dot’s Place, I noticed that we are currently out of some basic baking supplies. We don’t have flour, baking soda, baking powder, yeast, sugar or any flavors such as vanilla extract or spices such as cinnamon.

We are also currently out of basic cooking ingredients such as olive oil, vegetable oil, vinegar or any spices such as garlic powder, chili powder, or oregano.  Spices are expensive to buy on a limited income.

Eating tasty homemade meals is often healthier and cheaper than buying processed food at the supermarket, and studies show that families that cook and eat together are happier.

So please consider donating needed pantry supplies, and don’t forget the spices. And, since we are not all culinary stars, think about donating some good easy mixes  such as King Arthur cake mixes and frosting mixes. This would be helpful for a busy working parent to use to whip up some cupcakes that their child could bring to school to celebrate their birthday. Now wouldn’t that be nice!
